KUCU916 Radio Station a new beginning.

KUBU 96.5 fm lp was a community Radio station producing local radio producers shows at Access Sacramento at or around 2008 .Founded by Shane Carpenter Access Sacramento had its first FCC application to broadcast out a low frequency signal which could be sent out on the airways.

KUBU 96.5 fm was a station that was led by all-volunteer producers who went through a training class but got to real time use and learn on broadcast equipment. Then after being certified have their own show, Therefore, we had for the first time able to somewhat auto program 30-minute shows for a weekly schedule which ran through a set of computer servers to push it to an antenna we had downtown so if we wanted to do live shows you had to do it all manually. We got 6 miles radius, but we were live.

I started in 1997 on a camera for the jazz festival and had a tv show Late night Sacramento airing on Comcast channel 17′ I always had a day job as a computer engineer, so I combined the 2 often. In having a show, I realized I loved radio shows so in 2010 started a Nascar Radio show for an hour a week. I also over the years met many producers just like me go to work during the week and one special day get on the radio ,For me it was to play some oldies music and have my friends listen and once a week play music . Now I combined it with interviews and there was my show. Before my show was a chef Ernesto he would talk about food and his wife would have her show and right before me.You see it is special because also accompanied by his seeing eye dog as he was legally blind he would get all setup once a week. For years I loved hearing his chocolate cheese cake recipe. I also was starting high school sports for basketball on a truck shoot so trying to add it to a radio show was my goal .As years passed as we were doing shows our leader and program manager Share Carpenter passed as we held a tribute we needed someone to run the shows so James Just stepped in to run the schedules a great fit because he himself also had a show,

In March of 2025 as we had heard stories of the Cable Commission was no longer going to fund Access Sacramento fully what that meant was unknown, but we all knew we wanted a station so all was ok. Then in all of our email boxes a letter came giving us 30 days until they would no longer be funding a radio station. They would be taking an antenna down and immediately would help anyone to a different platform if they still wanted to be live. But the Television and recording studios would be open and still able to have recordings done. I immediately called to find out more details .The details were all about trying to cut radio programing to save money so I tried to get more details about the FCC license and was since they had to give it out to a non-profit group per the fcc was given to a non-profit that was in a Oak Park building that was using the license but had a existing station so we were going to keep both stations running. I looked at all the programing and looked at a plan going forward and went to James Just and asked him to show me how it works. Both me and James went to the new owner and he wanted me to see if I could get something working and we could do both stations that I figured out the auto-programming. Our goal was to keep all the producers doing shows with limited cost .After looking at all the options I seen the way it was done and from what I do for a living looked at making this not only local but global and all the features we were paying for would be covered in Live365.com and it was a new way of having a live radio station .I knew I could make this not only work but build in commercials that could help small businesses like me to utilize their own voice on ads .I wanted a true community station and sound like it. I spent the next 3 days in my garage coding a new station and seeing my vision take place on a new platform and all automated. I was getting James to get me all the shows and I would mirroring our old station all the shows would carry over like nothing happened.

When we down Access Sacramento lp station and pulled the antenna down .We took all the computer equipment down .Within 1 minute a new station was fully up and running on the internet where everyone could now hear our station anywhere on Live365.com very strong signal what I worked for days all worked .It was a great moment when James unplugged the station mine came right up fully operational and full 24 hour programing. All worked and a new station KUBU965 now KUCU916 existed and all the current producers were recording and giving me their shows with a download site I created so all automated. The Apple app as well very easy to use.

So far when we were on air I was able to do some voice work and co-sponsored a rodeo starting at Cal Expo the SacTown Rodeo where I was able to add an interview and sponsor commercials I recorded and aired a month up to the rodeo it was a sold-out show. After 6 months the owner of the FCC license had a different approach of charging all the community radio producers a fee so we looked at a better option with partners now on board from all our shows and after talking to all of the producers we gave up our 6 mile radius and the name we used for over 16 years to change our name to something is better seen on Live365.com to represent Sacramento KUCU916 with a new logo of the Sacramento Bridge as we were getting over 10000 listeners globally with shows like Mochill ,Classic Hip Hop country and jazz stations .Our programing is different depending on the day you listen their will be a different local Sacramento producer and content creators. We changed our logo and branding to KUCU916 Radio Station Sacramento I got my Sacramento City live and entertainment business license with the city under KUCU916 and now we are hosting 3 music labels and their artists ,20 local producers, the magazine the New Yorker audio books and for the second year in a row the Sac Town Rodeo sponsorship.
